♥ CHALLENGE GUIDELINES ♥

♥ Rest days include a yoga session so you can stretch those sore
muscles

♥ Drink at least 2 L of water per day through the challenge.

♥ Include at least one dark green leafy salad per day.

♥ Get at least 8 hours of sleep per night so your muscles have time to recover and rest.

♥ And always remember one last thing, if you want the best results you have to apply 2 rules and stick to them: You have to work hard AND eat clean. I eat a plant based diet (yes im a vegan fitness girl) which helps a lot and I highly recommend it. But the working hard piece comes from within each of us… you have to commit yourself everyday to the idea of achieving whatever healthy look you desire.

Yoga is an experience related with the vast interrelatedness of all life and of all things. Yoga is about learning from direct experience. Yoga is intimately connected to the religious beliefs and practices of the Indian religions. It is control of mind and its modifications. The experience of Yoga is an interrelatedness of all life and of all things. It is a direct experience learning. It is about control of one’s mind and its modifications. Yoga is a discipline connected in an intimately way to the religious beliefs and practices of the Indian religions.

What is Yoga?

Yoga does not mean to leave home and human society. It is a process of shaping one’s attitude to home and society with a new understanding. It is not ignoring your actual life; it is the spiritualization of it.

Although Yoga is not a religion, it aids to the practice of the basic spiritual truths in all religions. You can not experience Yoga by taking lysergic acid or mescalin or peyote (of Mexican origin) or divine mushrooms. Although Yoga is not a medical practice, it has been shown to be very helpful in many ways, so, Yoga is not just physical fitness training.

Meditation and Yoga

In addition to practicing the poses, yoga classes may also include instruction on breathing, call and response chanting, meditation, or an inspirational reading by the teacher. Using the term power yoga differentiated the intense, flowing style of yoga they were teaching from the gentle stretching and meditation that many Americans associated with yoga. However, power yoga will most likely appeal to people who are already quite fit, enjoy exercising, and want a minimal amount of chanting and meditation with their yoga.

Yoga practice

Yoga practice can include the use of meditation, reflection, study and other classic elements, but the emphasis of the Yoga practice is on coordinating breath and movement. What is commonly referred to as “yoga” can be more accurately described by the Sanskrit word “asana”, which refers to the practice of physical postures or poses.

Practice asanas that draw your attention inward; forward bends and restorative poses. Outside India, Yoga is mostly associated with the practice of asanas (postures) of Hatha Yoga or as a form of exercise, although it has influenced the entire Indian religions family and other spiritual practices throughout the world.

It will not be out of place, therefore, for me to tell you frankly and clearly that not all that has been put across as Yoga is really Yoga. There are many signs that indicate that Yoga is being considered by many in the West to be the solution of the perplexing problems of their complex and speedy civilisation.

Yoga is an all day long practice. A surprising thing is that yoga is very effective in alleviating certain types of medical conditions. The physical foundation of yoga is a series of structured poses (asanas) performed with an increasing breath awareness. Yoga is a complete practice that joins back mind, body and spirit. Decide if yoga is right for you.

Viral post: Man dislikes yoga pants

Women clad in yoga pants plan to parade through a coastal Rhode Island town in protest of a man who said the attire looks tacky and ridiculous.

The women plan to hold a parade Sunday in Barrington to show they can wear whatever they want.

Their outrage is in response to a letter that town resident Alan Sorrentino wrote to the Barrington Times about his dislike of yoga pants. He said women over age 20 shouldn’t wear them.

“Yoga pants belong in the yoga studio,” he wrote. “What’s next? Wearing a “Speedo” to the supermarket? Imagine if men did that. Yuck!”

Sorrentino wrote that it’s “bizarre and disturbing” to see the outfits on “mature, adult women,” noting that it’s “usually paired with a blousy top and a pony tail hairdo.” He said it’s the worst thing to happen in women’s fashion since the miniskirt. He said women should wear a “nice pair of tailored slacks” or jeans instead.

He told women who wear yoga pants that he’s struggling with his own physicality as he ages and said, “I don’t want to struggle with yours.” He didn’t return a call for comment Friday.

Women in the town and around Rhode Island have called the comments sexist and are planning to parade down his street.

In a Facebook page to promote the parade , women from as far as Texas and Australia said they’ll wear yoga pants on Sunday in a show of solidarity.

How Pilates Equipment Came About

There’s no doubt what Pilates can do for those who practice it. Definitely, Joseph Pilates’ exercise techniques have come a long way from World War I when he first applied them on injured soldiers in an internment camp. But aside from the usual Pilates yoga mats we use nowadays, do you know there is a variety of equipment out there we can explore? In fact, these machines are partially accountable for the exercise’ popularity because they play a major part in producing results.

The very first model introduced was the Pilates Reformer which was patterned after the WWI soldiers’ hospital beds set up with rings by Mr. Pilates himself. He believed the resistance helped their bodies recover from physical trauma. Because he found his invention very effective, he further developed it by creating more spring-based machines and incorporating bars and straps that allowed for more flexibility.

In 1920, he arrived in New York and brought his moves to dancers whom he helped become more flexible and generally healthier to further master their bodies. That proved to be a good decision as far as spreading word about the exercise was concerned because now, even the dancers didn’t only practice it. They also became active in letting other people know about the benefits of the Pilates routine.

After the Pilates Reformer, the Pilates Cadillac became the next in thing consisting of a padded platform with a frame on top of it. Mr. Pilates believed in the power of springs and this led him to develop the design with springs connecting bars or straps to the frame above the platform. Yet another equipment developed was the Pilates Barrel which was made of a wood frame with cushioned foam designed primarily to improve posture and flexibility.

Most people confuse Pilates with yoga and truth is, the two are very closely related. The former, however, is more focused on physical wellness while yoga touches deeper down into the spiritual level.

Nearly everyone would like to get the best of both by integrating one into the other. Of course, only professionals can do this and those who want to profit from both will have to trust only a trained instructor.

Today, when you talk of Pilates equipment, you usually think of Pilates and yoga mats which are, of course, more suited to contemporary lifestyle. A person’s success with this type of exercise routine is not completely dependent on the equipment used but whether it’s a barrel or an extra thick Pilates yoga mat , results will certainly be affected.

“Yoga Sutras” written by the Sage Patanjali, according to modern research, approximately the second century BC this labor Patanžali has managed to summarize the experience of previous sages clearly systematize the way yoga in an eight-stage Yoga (Sanskrit Ashtanga Yoga, “Ashta,” eight, “Anga”-part stage section.) in it, he describes in detail the obstacles that lie on the way to the main purpose of Yoga which he refers to as “Samadhi.” Then he consistently deals with what means and techniques can overcome them, and to know yourself. In fact, he speaks of liberation (Mukti) souls from all material weaknesses. Ishvara or God he calls jagad guru, to which the Yogi becomes able to overcome obstacles and reach the ultimate goal.
Yoga Sutras Of Patanžali

Yoga Sutra of Patanjali is one of the oldest and most authoritative treatises on yoga.

This treatise is the same respect both academic scientists and practicing yoga. For this reason, the Sutra is considered a fundamental treatise on yoga is a very large range of specialists.

Unfortunately, the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali is very difficult to understand for modern practitioners of Yoga for a variety of reasons, among which should be mentioned such as: lack of adequate terms in European languages for translation

basic notions in yoga (the word Samaddhi, Citta, Manas, etc.), the ultimate short presentation (very short aphorisms), difficult not knowing the environment in which this treatise was written, and many others.

For this reason, there was a serious need to give intelligible to the layman comments on this treatise. In our work we tried to avoid the Sanskrit terms, as well as illustrate the difficult philosophical ideas of simple analogies from our lives. We also conducted a parallel comparison with other philosophical teachings, such as Tantric Buddhism, Hindu Tantra, etc.

If this course of Yoga will give you at least a small islet of the understanding of the great science of yoga, if it will inspire you to continue learning all the secrets and mysteries of yoga, then we wake up assume his task was done.

The Top 3 Tailor-Made Costa Rica Holidays

The Top 3 Tailor-Made Costa Rica Holidays

Costa Rica’s small area has abundant wildlife, wonderful scenery, fine beaches and much more. It’s knowing where to go, how best to get there and which hotels to choose that has become the hardest part of planning a Costa Rican holiday. In this article we’ll cover a number of examples of tailor made holidays with the aim of giving you a good sense of the options available.

1. Secret Costa Rica (14 nights)

If you like to discover new places, and prefer the road less-travelled, then this holiday might be the one for you. As always, they can tailor-make it to suit you exactly as you want. (They say they have plenty of other undiscovered parts of Costa Rica to let you in on, from visits as the guests of tribal communities, to journeys across the remote San Juan river and into Nicaragua, so it’s worth getting in touch if this is the sort of thing you like best.)

After arriving in San Jose, you have a leisurely day to acclimatise, or to explore the Central Valley. The next day a rental car is delivered to your hotel. The plan is for you to drive south to a beautiful valley tucked away in the mountains south of the capital, and the little hamlet of San Gerardo de Dota. There are botanical gardens for you to visit en route, and the delightful Orosi Valley. San Gerado de Dota is set in bird-rich cloud forest, with very good chances of seeing the legendary Resplendant Quetzal, the sacred bird of the Mayans, with its irridescent plumage and extraordinary long tail that streams fully two feet behind as the males fly. There’s a neat mid-range lodge in the valley for a two-night stay. They say that this cloud-forested valley has the peace and tranquillity that the more famous Monteverde has lost, and your chances of seeing the Quetzal are much higher.

Then it’s an easy drive southwards to arrive at the Osa Peninsula, where there are several choices of places to stay. You should spend at least two days around here and you really should check out the quirky Hacienda Baru, a national wildlife refuge stretching from wetland and secondary forest up to primary forest on a high coastal ridge facing the ocean.

Turning north, there’s a newly upgraded road which allows you to make a loop, and brings you to a relatively undeveloped area around Dominical. It’s known to surfers for its broad sand beaches and excellent breaks. Stop awhile, or continue north via Manuel Antonio National Park, but don’t forget to stop at Carara National Park, especially if you enjoy birds, because there’s a population of Scarlet Macaw here that should be easy to find.
You’ll need to put in a couple more hours at the wheel to reach your next stop, a private lodge called La Ensenada reached by dirt road, but set high over the Gulf of Nicoya, with great views. Horse-riding is a great option here and birdwatching too in habitats similar to those of Palo Verde, where birdwatchers have been coming for years for its fabulous waterbirds.

The next stop is the village of Nosara on the Pacific coast of the Nicoya Peninsula, up in the northwest of the country, where the shoreline has been set aside as a wildlife reserve, so it’s a short walk to the sea but when you get there the beaches are completely natural. A special reason for coming is the nearby Ostional Wildlife Refuge, where Olive Ridley turtles come in great ‘arribada’ events to lay their eggs, with the biggest numbers in the events between August to October. Humpback and Grey whales are seen in winter months. Even if you miss these, there are guided tours into Nosara’s own Biological Reserve, and boat trips on the Nosara river to make up for it.

2. Costa Rica Chill-out (12 nights)

This tailor-made holiday is just the thing for a relaxing getaway or a special honeymoon. It includes a spa hotel, some wonderful wildlife and a beautiful Pacific beach. Again, everything about this holiday can be custom built to suit you.

You are collected from the airport when you arrive in San Jose and driven to the lovely Xandari Spa, a gorgeous boutique hotel set in a 40 acre coffee and fruit plantation with views over the Central Valley. It’s a wonderful place to unwind and de-stress, with two swimming pools, an outdoor Jacuzzi, and a lovely dining room with exquisite cooking and panoramic views. The spa facilities provide some extra pampering. A short excursion to see the impressive Poas volcano and visit the La Paz waterfall garden begins your discovery of Costa Rica.

You will also want to see something of Costa Rica’s wildlife, so this holiday includes a visit to Tortuguero National Park, where you explore the natural world of the flooded forest by boat with naturalist guides. You stay at a small upper-range lodge with open air restaurant whose menu includes some Afro-Caribbean specialities from this part of the country.

You shouldn’t visit Costa Rica without spending time at the beach, and there is plenty of it to choose from. There are a wonderful selection of properties, from Punta Islita, a sophisticated retreat and one of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, to barefoot style at the romantic Ylang-Ylang on the south coast of the Nicoya Peninsula. For a focus on well-being, choose Harmony at Nosara, a holistic retreat hotel with yoga classes, a spa and laid-back style.

For your final night, they suggest you return to San Jose to stay at the Grano de Oro, a Victorian family mansion converted to a sophisticated upper-range hotel in fin de siecle style. with original art and furnishings by Costa Rican artists. The dining room is considered one of the top spots to eat in the city.

3. Just a Week in Costa Rica (7 nights)

A week is not long, but if it’s all the time you can spare it’s amazing how much you can see in a country the size of Costa Rica. Wildlife, volcanoes and cloud forest make a great holiday, and this itinerary was designed to condense their classic ‘Coast to Coast’ holiday to make the most of a seven night visit.

From San Jose, where you spend your first night, you travel to Tortuguero for its wonderful wildlife, then to the impressive Arenal volcano and all the options around the town of La Fortuna. (Sadly you have to miss out the visit to the south of the Caribbean coast, and the forests of Sarapiqui.) You travel on to Monteverde, which many would say is a must, from where you return to San Jose, missing out on time at the beach – unless you really could stay a little longer?

STANDING FORWARD BEND —
In a forward bending posture the spine takes shape of it’s natural form, like in the womb. This is beneficial to the nerves, as it creates space between every vertebra, which increases the circulation around your spinal cord.
In this pose, your head is lower than your heart; therefore you receive more circulation to your face and scalp. This can help prevent hair loss. It is important to keep length in your spine, and to stay grounded with equal weight on both feet to benefit the most. These bends are beneficial to reduce tension, calm your mind, and sooth your nervous system.

RABBIT POSE —
Rabbit Pose is the most intense forward bending pose, which is opposite the camel. It brings the most stimulation to the crown of the head, because you’re bringing in weight to the top of your head.
This pose brings blood and nourishment to your brain, which is great to improve the condition of your hair. Rabbit pose can also help to balance your hormones, as is stimulates the endocrine system. It relieves mental fatigue, insomnia and depression, and also improves memory and focus.

CAMEL POSE —
Camel pose is an intense back bend that stimulates and increases muscular flexibility of the spine. With the gravity pull, there is an increase of blood circulation to your head. This means that the sensory organs are stimulated and activated, which can help with hair loss. With this increase of blood supply to your brain, you are improving hormonal function, disturbed sleep, stress and anxiety.
When opening the chest in camel pose, you’re expanding your rib cage. This increases the lung capacity, allowing you to inhale more oxygen into your body, which is an effective way to rejuvenate your skin and hair.

DOWNWARD DOG —
Downward dog is an excellent pose for stretching and strengthening your body, as well as having rejuvenating and invigorating benefits to your body, mind and spirit.
Downward dog is like a half inversion, and is great for those who can’t do the full headstand or shoulder stand. It helps reverse the effects of gravity by improving circulation. Being upside down sends blood and vital nutrients to your brain. This is great to stimulate hair growth and help prevent hair loss.

COBRA POSE–
Cobra pose opens up your chest and reduces tension and fatigue within the body. As you breath in cobra pose, your rid your body of toxins and revitalize and rejuvenate your hair, keeping it looking healthy and vibrant.

SHOULDER STAND —
Being upside down in shoulder stand reverses the effects of gravity. This increases circulation bringing fresh blood and nutrients at the deepest levels to the upper regions of your body. With improved blood flow to your head, you can heal many discomforts such as: headaches, congestion, constipation, asthma, sore throats and any women’s disorders
Inversions are the best way to improve hair growth and enhance facial radiance, making you look younger.

This pose can be performed before bedtime, as it promotes deep sleep and helps those with insomnia. We all know that sleeping is the cheapest way to regain your beauty.

There is a fine art to optimally sequencing the Yoga postures that you lead your students through during a class. There a number of factors to take into consideration when you are choosing a sequence of Yoga poses for your students. One of the most critical factors is taking into account the varied needs of your students. Although many teachers feel comfortable with a handful of set sequences of postures to lead their students through during a Yoga class, taking into consideration the needs of all of your students is critical to constructing an optimal krama or sequence of Yoga postures.

For instance, the most obvious factor when you are creating a sequence of Yoga postures for your class is the ability level and overall health of the students in your class. There are beginning, intermediate and advanced level classes offered at many studios and health clubs. There are also Yoga classes offered at many hospitals, retirement homes and schools. However, the composition of the students in your classes will differ substantially, depending on the patrons of that particular facility and the time of day.

For example, you may find that a Yoga class during the middle of the day caters more to young mothers who are either pregnant, or who are still recovering from child birth and are in the postpartum period of their pregnancy. These students may have solid intermediate practices, but may need a more restorative flow, depending on the trimester they are in or if they have recently given birth. Some of these women may also need to restore their physiological balance through the regular practice of pranayama exercises, in order to ward off postpartum depression.

Some other groups of Yoga students who may need a specialized sequencing of postures are students who are recovering from cancer or surgery, students who have limited mobility or are in a wheelchair, or older students who may not be comfortable working on the mat. Designing a class to fit these students’ needs in a safe, supportive and challenging manner is a critical aspect to the art of teaching Yoga well. Developing the flexibility to design different sequences for your classes, depending on the level of the students with whom you are working, is one of the main keys to becoming a successful and effective Yoga teacher.

In general, a beginning level student will have been practicing Yoga for one to two years. An intermediate level student will generally have been practicing for over two years, and an advanced student will have been actively practicing for six to ten years. Even if a student insists that he or she is an advanced practitioner because there are a number of advanced postures that he or she can do with ease, there are many nuances to a full, balanced practice of Yoga postures, breathing exercises and meditation techniques that take a substantial amount of time to master.

There are many ways to design a sequence of Yoga poses for a class. To set a tone for your class, it is helpful to take a few minutes to allow your students to set an intention or goal for their practice. Taking the time to set an intention will help your students to ground and be mindfully present in your class. The next portion of a class usually begins with a period of warm-up postures, such as Extended Child’s Pose and Cat-Cow Pose. You may also wish to include some warming breathing exercises, such as Bhastrika Pranayama, before moving on to a more active sequence of postures.

The next sequence of postures in a Yoga class generally includes Sun Salutations; standing postures, balancing poses, back bends, seated postures, inversions, supine poses, relaxation, and meditation. Some teachers include the repetition of sacred mantras into the relaxation or meditation portion of their class. The inclusion of the repetition of mantras will depend on the setting in which you are teaching and the group of students whom you are instructing. I know how you’re feeling, I have been there: Looking whether going to a yoga studio or a gym could be better. When you think about it, there are numerous reasons, explanations, why you should take your classes in a yoga studio and just as many reasons why you must do yoga in a general gym or fitness centers that offers yoga classes. So I did my own share of study and determined why my buddies, family and total strangers look forward to do classes in yoga studio or gyms. Here are some of the best responses:

– Based on Cherry: A studio junkie

“Yoga is the unity involving the body and it is everything about the vitality. I used to go to health clubs every day only to take various kinds of exercises: aerobics, dances, lifting weights, take your pick. But those individuals in a single place or one building offer several mixed energy for yoga to become fully effective, well in my opinion it is. That’s the reason I go to yoga studio for yoga classes.”

– According to Kevin: Gym it is! “I do not know about the other folks, but I will go for a gym, even if I haven’t tried a studio setting I’ll still stick with the gym due to the difference in costs – for me. I’ve got a VIP membership in our local gym with all facilities and courses included so it truly does save me a heck of a lot as opposed to services they offer in studios. But maybe just maybe I will try it out too. Who knows?”

– According to Savannahir: If you’re not sure, go for a gym

“Well, I’m the type that becomes bored pretty easily with one workout. I mean, I can’t imagine sticking to one specific exercise routine at one time. I am also really targeted with my costs, not because I’m poor but I just do not like to spend my hard earned money in useless things, and so I have membership cards and coupons just to save as much as I could. So since I’m terrified I will become bored soon after I buy a full membership in the yoga studio. That is why I therefore made a decision that I would stick with a gym that way I can obtain a membership fee and discount coupons that could permit me to all the classes in the gym and not just be tied to the yoga classes. In case you are like me, I’ll certainly advice you to try and do the same task I did.”

I am pleased what I’ve been finding out and how they have been educating all of the lessons that I’d ever require. I really like the way they explain the idea and of course it’s for their knowledge. What Can Yoga Do to Help the Global Economy in 2009?

Do you feel helpless, when you see or hear the daily news? Does your heart sink when you see your new credit card interest rate? We hear a lot of pessimism from financial experts, which leads to much negativity in the stock markets.

People are losing their homes, jobs are being lost, and suicides are becoming an option to poverty. We could blame corporate greed, banks, and Wall Street; but what good would it do? We cannot afford to waste time blaming those who our tax dollars support. Now is the time for real solutions, and each of us has a silver lining of creativity.

What can Yoga teachers do?

In our classes, we should maintain optimism. Make stress management workshops available to your students and the general public. Teach meditation sessions which focus on positive outcomes. Proliferate positive energy, so that your students carry the seeds of hope to the rest of your community.

What can Yoga practitioners do?

Visit your local Yoga studio and cultivate positive energy. Give everyone you know a dose of optimism. Help anyone you can. Each of us has limitations, but collectively, we have the ability to help those who need it most. Keep your dreams alive and move forward, without taking financial risks.

This action requires an International effort among Yoga practitioners of all styles. This is much more than wishful thinking. There are Yoga practitioners in every country, of every religion, and every color. It is time to unite and take action.

How can Yoga practitioners help?

We can start with collective meditation, positive affirmation, and prayer. Here is a proposal for positive change in 2009. On the second day of each even month, we will practice collective meditation, positive affirmation, and prayer, with the intention of global economic recovery.

Why should you care?

The Great Depression was followed by World War II. Massive poverty is a breeding ground for hate, blame, and warfare. Without funds, many charities are already at risk. Local communities cannot support themselves, with thousands more unemployed people each month.

The economic downturn may not be your problem now, but if this economy keeps sinking, it will be. In truth, poverty is a social problem for all of us – no matter where you live.

Here is the plan of action. Join together and practice collective meditation, positive affirmation, and prayer, with the intention of worldwide economic recovery on the second day of April, June, August, October, and December of 2009. When the economy turns around, we can focus on world peace in 2010.
