Yoga Stretches for Violinists (and Violists, and other string players)
I have mentioned the importance of a flexible wrist and fingers several times now. In this video I show a series of yoga exercises taught to me many years ago by a lady named Janet Jackson. No, not *that* Janet Jackson! Jan was an incredibly good recorder player with whom I had the privilege of recording an album of Renaissance music back when I was with an Irish band called Threadneedle Street.
In the video, I show a series of four stretches to be done on each hand to increase the flexibility of the wrists and arms. Each stretch takes about 30-45 seconds for maximum effect, which means that all four stretches will take a couple of minutes total. These stretches can be done before a performance; when done properly, they don’t tire you out or cause any pain.
Please note that at this time, Musical Notes Newsletter is not being published. I have not decided yet whether I will resume.
