Why You Should NOT Do Hot Yoga
Can you tell me why you should not do hot yoga?
Hot yoga is done in a hot or humid place.
A lot of people do hot yoga to try to look hot.
Sitting in a hot, damp room like a sauna puts stress on your cardiovascular system.
You get a cardiovascular workout while seeking enlightenment or just stretching out your joints.
You will probably get dehydrated doing that, without a serious physical benefit as you would see if you’d gone jogging.
I drink plenty of water.
I don’t think it is safe to do some of those more delicately balanced positions all hot and sweaty.
I’m careful.
Is the facility manager careful not to get the room so hot that people pass out from heat stroke just from the temperature and humidity?
I heard that Bikram yoga cleanses your body.
Doing yoga might clear your mind, but it won’t heal your body.
Sweating while doing yoga improves its effects.
Sweating doesn’t cleanse out toxins, though your body loses a lot of salts. Or were you hoping the lightheadedness meant you’d cleared your mind?
Who shouldn’t do hot yoga?
Don’t do hot yoga if you are dehydrated, have a heart condition, are pregnant or taking a diuretic.
For everyone else, then, it is fine.
Why don’t you just do yoga outside when it is 100 degrees outside? You’ll get just as much of a workout from heat stress without spending hundreds of dollars to an instructor.
Then I’ll be too far from the air conditioning when I need it.
If you’re that close to heat stress, you shouldn’t be doing hot yoga. Just wear yoga pants and you’ll be hot enough for any man’s tastes.
